To the Ones Who Will Stand Where We Once Stood

March 17, 2025

We know this stage.

We know it before the lights rise, before the music hums through the air. We know it in the quiet before the first step, before the world shrinks to the pulse of your heartbeat. We know what it is to stand here, trembling but unshaken, knowing that once you take that step—once you breathe in, lift your head, and let your presence claim this space—there is no turning back.

And we know what it is to fight.

We have sewn through nights that never ended. We have burned our fingers, glued our skins, built and rebuilt, and stood in front of a mirror wondering if we were doing enough. We have tasted the hunger, the exhaustion, the doubt.

And yet, we have stood here.

We have held the weight of expectation and let it fuel us, not break us. We have carried our country’s name, our craft, our endless hours of work—not for fame, not for a title, but because we loved this. Because in every stitch, in every move, in every ounce of our soul poured into this art, we knew—we belonged.

And now we stand here again, not as competitors, but as something else. As a reminder. As proof that this journey—every hardship, every sacrifice—is worth it.

And we look at you.

To Those Who Have Never Been Here Before

You watch from the crowd, from the screen, from the corners of your hesitation. You wonder if you have what it takes. You ask yourself if you’re ready. You hold your dreams at arm’s length, waiting for the right time.

But there is no “ready.” There is only now.

Cosplay does not ask for perfection. It asks for passion. For dedication. For the willingness to try, to learn, to fall and rise again.

And here, in WCS Malaysia, you are not just stepping onto any stage—you are stepping into a legacy. A stage that has carried the weight of champions, that has seen the triumph of those who dared to push themselves further than they ever imagined.

If you think this place is not for you, let me say this to you—it is.

If you are willing to fight for it, if you are willing to bleed creativity, to sharpen your skills, to face your fears—this stage will welcome you.

To Those Who Have Been Here Before

You know this road. The weight of the costume on your back. The burn of the spotlight on your skin. The silence of the crowd in that one, fleeting moment before they erupt in applause.

You have given yourself to this craft. And maybe you have walked away, thinking your time has passed. Maybe you believe you have nothing left to prove.

But this stage is not asking you to prove anything.

It is asking if you have more to give. If there is still fire in your heart. If there is a performance, a vision, a masterpiece within you that has yet to be seen.

We have fought. We have fallen. We have stood on podiums, on international stages, with banners and applause from the floor and tears in our eyes. And even now, after all these years, we still feel it. The pull. The hunger. The knowledge that, given the chance, we would do it all over again.

And you?

You are not too old. You are not done. The new generation looks to you—not just for your victories, but for your wisdom, your courage, your will to push forward even when the road is uncertain.

Stand again. Not for the past, but for the future.

This Stage Demands More Than Performance. It Demands Character.

WCS Malaysia is not an easy stage.

It is built on fairness, on discipline, on the highest standards of cosplay and performance.

Here, costumes must be crafted, not bought. Details must be precise, flawless—a reflection of your own hands and dedication. Performances must be more than movement—they must speak, they must command, they must tell a story so powerful that the audience forgets they are watching a competition and believes, for a moment, that they are inside the world you create.

Judges do not play favorites. There is no room for bias, for shortcuts, for anything less than your absolute best. Every stitch is counted. Every detail scrutinized. Every movement judged not just for accuracy, but for meaning.

This is the weight of WCS. This is why it is more than just a title.

And this is why it is worth it.

To the One Who Will Carry the Flag Forward

One of you will stand on this stage next year, holding the flag of Malaysia in your hands, knowing that your journey does not end here. That it stretches across the sea, to Japan, where the best of the best will stand together, waiting for the next legend to be written.

Will it be you?

We do not know your name yet. We do not know the colors of your costume, the shape of your armor, the sound of your voice when you take your first breath before stepping forward.

But we know you exist.

We know that right now, somewhere, you are stitching, practicing, dreaming. We know that inside you, there is a fire that has not yet seen its full blaze.

And we know that when you take that final step onto the international stage, when you lift your head and look out into that vast crowd, you will not be alone.

You will carry us with you. Every cosplayer who came before. Every veteran who fought and bled for this craft. Every dreamer who looked at the stage and dared to believe they could be there too.

We were once where you stand now.

And one day, you will stand where we were.

And when you do, carry this legacy forward.

Not just for yourself.
Not just for the win.

But for the love of cosplay.

For everything we have fought for, everything we have built.

For Malaysia.

For all of us.

Will you answer?

A heartfelt thank you to Team Manboobs, WCS MY 2011 & 2017 National Champion, for sharing your invaluable thoughts. Your legacy continues to inspire for those who weren’t there.
