The World Cosplay Summit Philippines (WCS PH) 2025 is right around the corner, and it makes one wonder,  how cosplay can bring out the best in creativity and resilience. Scheduled for March 2 at Geek+Pop Alpha, this is a serious competition. This is professional cosplay performing arts.  It shows how different countries—each with their unique cultures—celebrate and share the passion.

The Journey to the Finals

The WCS PH 2025 Competition is a multi-stage journey that starts with three regional preliminaries before wrapping up with the finals in Manila. And by the time contestants make it to the final stage, the competition is fierce.

Breakdown of Preliminaries

• Mindanao Preliminaries:
  Held at the Mindanao Cosplay Summit on March 16-17, 2024, in Davao City.

• Western Visayas Preliminaries:
  Hosted at BaconPop on October 14-15, 2024, in Bacolod City.

• Northern Luzon Representatives:
  Awarded on August 12-13, 2023, at HobbyConnExpo in Baguio City.

• Central Visayas Entries:
  Recognized alongside Cebu’s regional representatives.

• Luzon Preliminaries:
  Scheduled to take place in Manila on February 27, 2024, just days before the National Preliminary.

Resilience of Filipino Cosplayers

The five rounds of preliminaries highlight the resilience of Filipino cosplayers. They refine their craft, connect with new communities, and push their boundaries in ways they might not have expected.

Traveling between these regions is more than just about booking a ticket. There’s planning, budgeting, and making sure everything comes together perfectly. And yet, every year, cosplayers pour their hearts into this journey because that shot at representing the country on the WCS stage is worth it.

Malaysia has its workings, too, leaning into technical precision and immersive detail. Neither approach is better, they’re just different ways of showcasing how cosplay connects people through shared creativity. While Filipino cosplayers often travel across vast regions for competitions, Malaysia’s smaller geography makes logistics a little easier, though the passion and dedication remain the same.

Representing on the Global Stage

The winners of WCS PH 2025 will represent the Philippines at the World Cosplay Summit in Nagoya, Japan. Standing on that global stage is not just about personal pride. It’s a national pride. It’s about showing the world what Filipino talent and creativity can and will achieve.

Geek+Pop Alpha has pulled out all the stops, bringing in three highly qualified WCS alumni who know the stage inside and out. These judges are real experts among professionals. They’re icons in the cosplay community, each with their own impressive legacy.

The Judges

• TaeYeon – World Cosplay Summit 2012 Team Korea Representative:
  TaeYeon is a force to be reckoned with, having represented Korea globally. Her expertise in costume craftsmanship and stage presence will bring a sharp eye to the judging panel.

• Rian CYD – World Cosplay Summit 2016 Champion with Team Indonesia:
  Rian knows the demands of greatness. His firsthand experience and understanding of what makes a winning performance will undoubtedly set a high bar for contestants.

• Reika – Official World Cosplay Summit Cosplay Adviser:
  Reika’s name is practically synonymous with cosplay. As an official WCS adviser and internationally renowned cosplayer, their presence alone is inspiring. With a deep understanding of character embodiment and performance artistry, Reika will undoubtedly provide invaluable feedback.

Cultural Exchange and Collaboration

Adding an exciting dimension to this year’s event, Rikka Blurhound and Salty Katz Sharky will be attending as part of the WCS PH and WCS MY cultural, judge, and guest cosplayer exchange. This collaboration, first discussed during the WCSMY Summit 2025 earlier this year, is a go-to initiative aimed at fostering cultural ties between the cosplay communities of the Philippines and Malaysia.
